How do I share my screen in Skype for Mac OS X?

Screen sharing lets you share your computer screen with anyone on Skype. For example, you can display presentations, show friends photos without having to send them, or show someone how something works on your computer.

You can share your screen with one contact in a voice call for free on Skype for Mac OS X. To share your screen during a video call, you need to have Skype Premium. Skype Premium also lets you share your screen with several people in a group video call. Just make sure you’re all using the latest version of Skype.

Sharing your screen during a voice call

You can share your screen with your Skype contact at any time during a voice call:

The Share your entire screen option and the screen to be shared selected.

To share a specific window rather than your entire screen:

The Start button selected after clicking the Share a window option and selecting the window to be shared.

Alternatively, from the menu bar, select Conversations and click Switch Screen or Window….

Screen sharing stops automatically when you close the window that you’re currently sharing.

  1. Sign in to Skype.
  2. Find the person or group conversation you want to share your screen with and start a call.
  3. Click the share icon The share icon. at the bottom of the conversation window and select Share Screen….
  4. In the window that opens, select Share your entire screen. If you’re using more screens, choose which one you’d like to share and click Start.
    1. Click the down arrow next to Share your entire screen.
    2. From the drop-down menu that opens, select Share a window.
    3. Then choose the window you’d like to share, select it and click Start.
  5. You can change your screen sharing settings at any time. Simply click the share icon The share icon. at the bottom of the conversation window and select Switch Screen or Window….
  6. When you want to stop sharing your screen, click the share icon again and select Stop Screen Sharing.

Sharing your screen during a video call

If you have Skype Premium, you can also share your screen with your friend during a video call:

If you don’t have Skype Premium and you start sharing your screen during a video call, a window informing you that “You need Skype Premium to share screens” opens. Just click Continue with a free call.

  1. Sign in to Skype.
  2. Find the person or group conversation you want to share your screen with and start a video call.
  3. Click the share icon The share icon. at the bottom of the conversation window and select Share Screen….
  4. Turn off your video to start screen sharing for free by clicking the stop video icon The Camera icon., then proceed with the step 3.
  5. In the window that opens, select the down arrow next to Share your entire screen. From the menu that opens, select either Share your entire screen or Share a window, then click Start.
  6. When you want to stop sharing your screen, click the share icon again and select Stop Screen Sharing.

You can switch presenters at any time and as often as you like and share screens across platforms (Windows, Mac and Linux). The person you’re sharing your screen with can send you video at the same time, and you can also talk to each other, send instant messages and send files.
