How do I send an instant message in Skype?

  1. In Contacts, select the person or group you want to instant message. Or in Recent, select the conversation you want to pick up again.
  2. Type your message in the conversation window and either press enter or select the blue Send button.

To create a new group:

  1. Click the +New icon.
  2. Type the name of the contact you want to add, select them, then select Add.
  3. Repeat this process for as many contacts as you wish to add to your conversation.
  4. This creates your group. Simply type and send your first instant message and it will be sent to all members of the group.

To turn an existing conversation into a group:

  1. From Recent, select the conversation you’d like to add new contacts to.
  2. Select the  button to either create a new group in a one-to-one chat or add people to an existing group chat.
  3. Select the contacts you would like to add to the conversation. When you have finished, either select the Create group button in a one-to-one chat or the Add button in a group chat.

You can easily share a new or existing Skype conversation with anyone, even if they aren't on Skype.

  1. You can select email or copy link from the add contacts screen, the confirmation screen after you set up a conversation or from the conversation profile.
  2. Send the email or give the link to your friends or family to join your group. If they aren't on Skype, they can join as a guest user.

On desktop:

  1. On the Recent tab, find the group conversation you would like to leave and right-click it.
  2. Select Leave Conversation.

On mobile:

  1. On the Recent tab, find the group conversation you would like to leave and tap the group name at the top.
  2. Scroll down and tap Leave group.
