Do I need to back up my contact list?

These instructions are for Skype 5.0 for Windows desktop or above. You can download the latest version of Skype here. If you're not sure which version of Skype you are using, it's easy to find out.

There's no need to back up your contact list. With Skype 5.0 and above, your contacts are stored centrally on our servers. You can access them anywhere, as long as you sign in with the same Skype Name and password. However, if you wish you can still back up your contact list:

  1. Sign in to Skype.
  2. In the menu bar, click Contacts > Advanced > Backup Contacts to File…
  3. Choose a destination to save the file to, and click Save.
