What do I need to use Skype on my computer?

All you need to get up and running with Skype is an internet connection – broadband is best. Find out how much bandwidth you need.

You don't even need to download the Skype app if you don’t want to – you can get started using Skype for Web directly in your browser.

If you prefer to use the desktop app for Windows or Mac, you can download it here.

Now you’re all set up to start instant messaging with your friends. If you want to make voice calls, you’ll need speakers and a microphone. Most computers have these built in, but for great quality calls we recommend using a separate headset. If you want to make video calls, you’ll also need a camera – most laptops have an integrated webcam. Find out which USB headsets and webcams are best rated for using with Skype.
