How do I send and receive instant messages using Skype on my Verizon Android?

How do I send an instant message?

Instant messaging is an alternative to talking with your friends on Skype – and like Skype-to-Skype calls, it’s completely free. To send an instant message on your Verizon Android:

  1. Sign in to Skype.
  2. Select a contact from your contact list and press the Menu button.
  3. Select Chat. This takes you to the instant messaging screen.
  4. Type your message into the text box then press Send.

If the contact is online, the message will be delivered to them instantly.

Can I send an instant message to more than one person at once?

Yes, group instant messaging allows you to send an instant message to multiple contacts at the same time.

To send a group instant message from your contact list:

  1. Sign in to Skype.
  2. Go to the Contacts tab.
  3. Press the Menu button.
  4. Select Start multichat and add the contacts you’d like to start instant messaging. This will take you to the chat area.
  5. Type your message into the text box and press Send.

To add people to an existing instant messaging conversation:

  1. Sign in to Skype.
  2. Go to the Events tab.
  3. Select an instant messaging conversation.
  4. Press the Menu button.
  5. Select Add people and add the contacts you’d like to add to the conversation.
  6. Type your message into the text box and press Send.

The message is delivered instantly to all members of the group that are online.

Can I add emoticons to an instant message?

Unfortunately, on Verizon Android, you cannot add emoticons to instant messages. We hope to change this in the near future, so be sure to look out for it in future releases.

Where can I find the instant messages I’ve received?

Your event history contains all the instant messages you have sent and received. To find your instant message history, simply go to the Events tab. You will see all your instant messaging, call, voicemail and contact request history, listed in date order.

New unopened events are shown in bold. Simply tap on an event to open it and view the details.

Can I name a group instant message conversation?

Yes, you can rename instant message conversations to make them easier to indentify in your events list. To do this, simply select the group instant message conversation you’d like to rename from the Events tab, press the Menu key and select Set Topic.

How do I hide an instant message conversation?

To hide an instant message conversation, go to the Events tab and long tap the conversation you want to hide. This gives you two options to choose from:

  • Open – opens the event so you can view the details
  • Close – removes the event from the list

Select Close to remove the instant message from the events list. This does not completely delete the conversation. If you receive another instant message to this conversation, it will reappear in your events list.

How do I leave a group instant message conversation?

To leave a group instant message conversation, simply choose the conversation you’d like to leave from the events list, press the Menu key and select Leave Conversation. Leaving a conversation means you will no longer receive any further instant messages from the group.

Can I send texts?

No. Sending text messages is not supported by Skype mobile™ on your Verizon Android. You can send texts messages from your phone using your Verizon text messaging allowance.
