How do I turn off notifications in Skype for Windows desktop?

You can customise which notifications pop up in the lower right of your screen whilst Skype is running.

To turn notifications on or off:

  1. Sign in to Skype.
  2. In the main menu, click Tools > Options... and then Notifications. The Notifications settings panel displays.
  3. Un-tick which notifications you wish to turn off.
  4. Click Save.

You can turn off the following notifications for when someone:

  • Comes online (Skype & Facebook)
  • Goes offline  (Skype & Facebook)
  • Starts an IM with you
  • Sends you a file
  • Requests your contact details
  • Leaves you a voice message
  • Has a birthday
  • Sends you contacts

You can also turn off notifications for particular conversations. To do this:

  1. Sign in to Skype.
  2. In your Recent list, click on the conversation for which you would like to turn off notifications.
  3. In the main menu, go to Conversation > Notification Settings...
  4. Tick Do not notify me.
  5. Click OK.
