How do I make and receive calls using Skype on my au Android phone?

The following questions and answers will help you call your friends, family and colleagues using Skype on your au Android phone.

How do I make a Skype-to-Skype call?

To make a Skype-to-Skype call:

  1. Sign in to Skype.
  2. Select the Contacts icon.
  3. Tap a contact to view their contact card.
  4. Select Call. If the contact has a phone number attached to their profile, select the option with the symbol beside it.

A contact must be online to receive calls on Skype. Contacts that are online will have one of the following icons by their name:

Skype on au does not currently support video calling.

How do I call mobiles and landlines?

To call mobiles and landlines from Skype, you will first need to purchase a little Skype Credit or a subscription.

You cannot call domestic numbers from Skype on your au Android phone. Find out more.

To call a mobile or landline number that is aved in your contact list:

  1. Sign in to Skype.
  2. Select the Contacts icon.
  3. Tap a contact to view their contact card.
  4. If the contact is a mobile or landline number, simply select Call. If the mobile or landline number is attached to a contact’s Skype profile, select Call, then either Home or Cell.

To call a number using the dial pad:

  1. Sign in to Skype.
  2. Tap  to go to the main menu.
  3. Select Dialpad.
  4. Tap the flag and select a country from the list. Then enter the number, including the area code.
  5. Tap Call.

To call a number from your Android phonebook:

  1. Sign in to Skype.
  2. Tap  to go to the main menu.
  3. Select Dialpad.
  4. Tap Phone book and select a number from your phonebook.

How much does it cost to call mobiles and landlines?

All calls to mobiles and landlines abroad from Skype on au are charged at regular Skype rates, just like when you call from a computer.

You will need a little Skype Credit or a subscription to call mobiles and landlines abroad.

Can I call domestic numbers?

You can dial Japanese domestic numbers from Skype on au, but these will be automatically carried as normal au calls, using your plan minutes. This way you can continue to benefit from your existing au calling plan. Skype will alert you when this is happening, but if you often call Japanese numbers from within the application, you can choose not to see the message every time by checking the box Do not show this message again.

Can I make a group call?

You can participate in group calls using Skype on your au Android phone, but you can’t host them. To join a group call, when you receive a call, simply tap the green answer button to answer it.

Can I use caller ID?

The Skype on au application does not support caller ID. When you call phones abroad using Skype on your au phone, your mobile number or Skype Number is not shown as your caller ID, even if you have set up caller ID on your Skype account. Instead, “Skype Call” or “Unknown number” is displayed when you make calls to mobiles and landlines from Skype.

What happens if I’m on a Skype call and receive a call to my mobile number?

Any calls made to your mobile number while you are on a Skype call will be forwarded, sent to your au voicemail, or sent to call waiting, depending on what options you have set up on your phone. If you have none of these set up, the caller will hear a busy tone.

Can I receive calls to my Skype Number?

No. Receiving calls to your Skype Number is not supported by Skype on your au Android phone.

Where can I find my call history?

To find your call history, simply select Recent from the main menu.



In your Recent list you will see your call history, instant messages you have sent and received, your voice messages and all of your contact requests. Your history is displayed in chronological order. New events are shown in bold. Tap an event to open it and view the details.

Can I hide my call history?

Yes, you can. To remove call information from your Recent list:

  1. Sign in to Skype.
  2. Select Recent.

  3. Tap and hold the call information you’d like to hide.
  4. Select Close.

What is causing my calls to drop?

When your Skype Credit runs out in the middle of a call, the call will drop. You should be able to make calls to mobile and landline numbers abroad as long as you have enough  Skype Credit or an appropriate calling subscription. To view your Skype Credit balance and subscription details, sign in to your account on your mobile browser and select the Profile icon. If you need to buy more Skype Credit, simply tap Skype Credit and select Add credits to your bill/Buy credits from Skype and follow the instructions on the screen.
