How do I update my status settings in Skype for Mac OS X?
Your status setting lets your contacts know if you’re available to have a conversation. A status icon is displayed next to your profile picture.
Your status is set automatically, but you can change it manually at any time. Just click the status icon and choose one from the list.
Each of your contacts also has their status displayed next to their name in your contact list, so that you know what’s the best way to contact them. Anyone with one of these icons displayed beside their names is on Skype so it's free to call.
The following table describes the different status icons that you can select for yourself, or that are displayed for your contacts.
Your contacts will see that you are online and available for a conversation.
Your contacts will see that you are signed in to Skype, but away from your computer. Your contacts can still send instant messages and try to call you.
You can set how many minutes the computer must be inactive before the status setting shows as Away. To do this:

Setting your Facebook status in Skype
At the moment, Skype for Mac OS X doesn’t support changing your Facebook status. You can, however, use Skype for Windows desktop to change it. You can then use Skype for Mac OS X again and your Facebook status will be updated.
To change your Facebook status:
- Sign in to Skype with Skype for Windows desktop.
- In the menu bar, go to Skype > Online Status > Facebook >
- Choose Same as on Skype if you wish your Facebook status to be the same as your Skype status.
- Choose Offline if you wish to appear offline to your Facebook contacts. Remember, your Facebook friends will have the offline status icon displayed next to their names, and you won’t be able to IM them until you change this setting.
- Sign in to Skype on your Mac device. Your Facebook status will be updated and your contacts' status icons will display correct status.
To change your Facebook status, you’ll need to sign in to Skype for Windows desktop again.
