Looking for Skype for Business?
To recover your username and/or password you’ll need to know the email address you used when you signed up for Skype. If you don’t have or don’t know the email address you used when you signed up, see this article before attempting the steps below.
Which account do you have?
Skype account – uses a unique username, like anexamplename
Microsoft account – an email address, like firstname.lastname@example.org
Facebook account – an email address or a phone number
Follow the steps below to recover your username and/or password for each type of account.
Follow these steps to recover your Skype Name, reset your password, or do both.
Open the Problems Signing In? page (opens in a new tab).
Enter your registered email address.
Click the Send email button.
You will receive an email with a temporary code – please check your junk or spam folders if you don’t see the email. Temporary codes last only 3 hours.
Click the link inside the email to display a list of Skype accounts associated with that email address.
If the link in the email doesn’t work, simply copy and paste the recovery code and click the Enter code button on the email sent screen, and click the Submit button.
The Skype account(s) for the registered email address will be shown. If you've forgotten your Skype Name, click that account in the list, then click the Sign in link to sign into this account on skype.com. Make note of this Skype Name so that you can also sign into Skype on your desktop or mobile device.
If you've forgotten your password, click that account in the list, then click Reset Password to create a new password.
Important: If the account selected displays a Reset Microsoft password button, it is a Microsoft account. Try to sign in with the Microsoft account first (see Microsoft account below for details).
If you use a Microsoft account to sign in (an email address) select Microsoft account on the sign-in screen. You’ll need that email address to reset your password if you’ve forgotten it.
If you can’t sign in because you’ve forgotten your password, go to the Microsoft account page (opens in a new tab) to reset your password.
If you signed in to Skype with your Facebook account and you've forgotten your password, visit this Facebook page (opens in a new tab).
