I've forgotten my username or password

If you’ve forgotten your username and/or password, we can help get you back up and running. The steps to recover your account differ depending on how you sign in to Skype.

How do you sign in to Skype?

If you use a username (that doesn’t contain the @ symbol) and password, then you sign in with a Skype Name.

If you use an email address and password (the same one you use for other Microsoft devices or services) then you sign in with a Microsoft account.

If you use your Facebook email/phone number and password, then you sign in with your Facebook account.

Choose one of the options below to recover your username and/or password.

To recover your Skype Name or reset your password, you’ll need to know your registered email address – usually that’s the email address you used when you first joined Skype. If you’ve forgotten what that email address was – or if you no longer have access to it – read our guide to finding your registered email address before you attempt the steps below.

  1. Go to Problems Signing In.
  2. Enter your registered email address and click Send email.
  3. In the email we send you, click the link:

If the link doesn't work, copy the code that's in the email and click Enter code on the web page (or go directly to it here), then paste the code into the field and click Submit:

  4. We'll show you all of the Skype accounts associated with that email address:

If you’ve forgotten your Skype Name, it’s displayed right below your name. Make a note of it so that you can sign in to Skype on your computer or mobile device. If you want to sign in to your account on skype.com, choose the account and then click Sign in.

If you’ve forgotten your password, choose the account, then click Reset password. We’ll take you through the process to create a new password.

If the account you select has a Reset Microsoft password button, then you might be able to use your Microsoft account to sign in to Skype without resetting your password. Try signing in with your Microsoft account details first (see below).

If you’re having trouble signing in to Skype with your Microsoft account (an email address and password):

  1. Make sure the sign-in screen looks like this:

If it doesn't, you can get to that screen by clicking Sign in with a different account (see below), then clicking Microsoft account:

  2. If you’re on the right screen and still can’t sign in with your Microsoft account details, go to the Microsoft account password reset page. We’ll guide you through the process to reset your password and security information.

If you sign in to Skype using your Facebook login details (an email address or phone number and a password) and you’ve forgotten your password, go to this Facebook page to reset your password.
