How do I make and receive calls using Skype for Symbian?

The following FAQ will help you make Skype-to-Skype calls and call mobiles and landlines from Skype on your Symbian phone.

 

How do I make a Skype-to-Skype call?

Skype-to-Skype calls are free on your Symbian phone, just like they are on your computer. To start a Skype-to-Skype call:

  1. Sign in to Skype.
  2. Select the Contacts tab: 
  3. Select the contact you would like to call.
  4. Press the Call button: 
  5. Select Skype to call the contact on their Skype account.

How do I make calls to mobiles and landlines?

You can make calls to mobiles and landlines using Skype for Symbian at the same great rates you get when calling from Skype on your computer. All you need is a little Skype Credit or an appropriate subscription.

To call a mobile or landline number using the dial pad:

  1. Sign in to Skype.
  2. Select the Call Phones tab: 
  3. Tap the arrow and select a country code from the list: 
  4. Enter the mobile or landline number and press Call:

Alternatively, tap the phonebook icon and select a contact to call a number from your Symbian phonebook:

To call a Skype contact’s mobile or landline:

  1. Sign in to Skype.
  2. Select the Contacts tab: 
  3. Select the contact you’d like to call and tap Call
  4. Select Mobile, Home, or Office.

If these options are not available, then it means the contact does not have a mobile or landline number attached to their profile. To call them, enter their number using the dial pad.

It’s not currently possible to add or remove phone numbers from a Skype contact’s profile using Skype for Symbian. However, you can do this using Skype on your computer.

Can I set caller ID?

Yes. Simply sign in to your account using your mobile browser or on your computer, go to the Call phones tab and select Caller ID settings. Follow the instructions on the screen to set your mobile number or Skype Number as caller ID.

How do I receive Skype calls?

As long as you are signed in to the Skype application, you can receive Skype calls to your Symbian phone. When you receive a call, you see an incoming call notification screen. Simply press Accept to answer the call. If you are unable to answer, press Reject to decline the call. If you have activated Skype voicemail, the rejected call will be forwarded to your voicemail, which you can retrieve on your Symbian phone.

Can I receive calls to my Skype Number?

Yes. With an Skype Number, people can call you from a mobile or landline and you can pick up the call in Skype. It’s perfect if you have friends, family or business colleagues who don’t use Skype. Anyone can dial your Skype Number from any mobile or landline.
Calls to your Skype Number will ring just like any other Skype call, as long as you are signed in to the Skype application. Simply answer them like you would a Skype-to-Skype call.

Can I buy an Skype Number using my Symbian phone?

Yes. To buy an Skype Number using your handset:

  1. Sign in to Skype.
  2. Select the My Info tab: 
  3. Select Skype Number.
  4. Sign in to your account using your Skype Name and password.
  5. Select the Skype Number tab and tap Get an Skype Number.
  6. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the purchasing process.

How do I retrieve my voicemails?

To retrieve your voicemail messages on Skype for Symbian:

  1. Sign in to Skype.
  2. Select the History tab: 
  3. Tap Voicemails.
  4. Select a voicemail message and press Options.
  5. Select Play.

How do I clear my call history?

To clear your call history:

  1. Sign in to Skype.
  2. Select the History tab: 
  3. Tap Calls to view your call history.
  4. Press Options and select Clear.

This will clear your entire call history from the History tab.

How can I ensure best call quality?

For best call quality, we recommend you have a strong WiFi connection and that you don’t have a lot of other applications running. Applications such as music players and internet browsers can use a lot of your phone’s memory.
