How do I call and instant message my Facebook friends with Skype for Windows desktop?

With Skype for Windows desktop you can send instant messages to your Facebook friends and make video and voice calls to them from the Facebook contact list.

Before you call, video call or send an instant message to your Facebook friends, you’ll need to download the latest version of Skype for Windows desktop and connect your Skype account with Facebook.

When you’re connected, the list of your Facebook friends is displayed within your contact list.

If you can't see your Facebook contacts, make sure that Facebook or All is selected from the drop-down menu in the Contacts tab.

The All option selected from the drop-down menu in the Contacts tab.

The Facebook list contains all of your friends from your Facebook account, and shows whether they’re online, away or offline on Facebook.

It’s not possible to delete the Facebook list.

Sending an instant message

To send an instant message to a Facebook friend from Skype:

  1. Sign in to Skype.
  2. In the Contacts tab, select the Facebook list.
  3. Search for the Facebook friend you want to contact and select them.
  4. In the conversation window, send the instant message as normal.

When you IM your Facebook friends through Skype, your message appears in their Facebook chat window.

The Facebook contact will then appear in your Recent tab along with recent conversations you’ve had with people on Skype. If you’ve spoken to a friend Skype-to-Skype and Skype-to-Facebook, their name may appear twice in the Recent tab.

If your friend is offline on Facebook but available on Skype, you can instant message them Skype-to-Skype instead. If they use different names on Facebook and on Skype, you may have to ask them for their Skype Name to instant message them using Skype.

If your friend is offline both on Facebook and Skype, or offline on Facebook and not added to your Skype contact list, you can send them an SMS text message. Simply click Send SMS link in the conversation window, add a phone number, enter your message and click Send.

Important: To insert a line break, you need to use the Ctrl + Enter key combination. Pressing Enter will send the SMS text message.

You can't use the Send File, Send Contacts, Show My Desktop or Add people to this conversation features with your Facebook friends.
