Skype WiFi is a great way to browse the internet, read emails and enjoy Skype at public WiFi hotspots when you move around the world, paying easily just with your Skype Credit. When you’re not on the move, you don’t need Skype WiFi to use Skype. You can simply use your home or work WiFi network to connect to the internet.

How do I start using Skype WiFi?

It’s easy to start using Skype WiFi. Download the Skype WiFi application and make sure you have a little Skype Credit on your account.

To connect to the internet with Skype WiFi if you’re not connected to a WiFi hotspot:

  1. Connect to an open WiFi network.
  2. Open and sign in to the Skype WiFi app with your Skype Name or Microsoft account.
  3. If the network you’re connected to is compatible with Skype WiFi, you’ll see a message Skype WiFi is available here and how much it costs to connect per minute.
  4. Tap Connect.

You can then return to your apps and use your device as you always do. You can check your email, surf the web or run apps that need data connectivity.

Important: Make sure you’re connected to the internet when you sign in to Skype WiFi with your Microsoft account for the first time. The application will remember your account details and you’ll able to use Skype WiFi the next time you’re at a public hotspot.

When you connect to a WiFi network and sign in to Skype WiFi, you’ll see the message You’re already online.

If you have an account with the provider, select I have an account with this provider, enter your provider account log-in details and tap Connect.

If you see the message You’re not connected to WiFi, then you can join a WiFi network that supports Skype WiFi.

  1. Go to your device’s Home screen and tap Settings > WiFi.
  2. Search for a Skype WiFi supported network and connect to it.
  3. Go back to the Skype WiFi app and you’ll see a message Skype WiFi is available here and the price to connect per-minute.
  4. Tap Connect.

How do I pay for Skype WiFi?

You pay for Skype WiFi with your Skype Credit. When you connect to Skype WiFi for your iOS device, the app will automatically reserve 30 minutes worth of Skype Credit from your balance.

If you don’t use all 30 minutes, you’ll only pay for what you use per minute. Make sure you select Disconnect when you’re done.

If you connect with your provider account, you won’t pay with your Skype Credit, but you’ll be charged by your provider.

How much does Skype WiFi cost?

Skype WiFi prices vary by provider and will be displayed when a supported hotspot is available.

How do I know how many Skype WiFi minutes I have used?

You can see how many Skype WiFi minutes you have used directly in the app. It counts down from the maximum amount of minutes you can use for each session (30, 60 or 120 minutes).

To change the maximum connection duration:

  1. Start Skype WiFi.
  2. Tap the settings icon The settings icon..
  3. Tap Connection Info.
  4. Set connection duration to 30, 60 or 120 minutes.

You can end your session at any time, but for your protection, Skype WiFi sessions are set to expire after 30 minutes (if you haven’t changed the maximum connection duration manually).

If I log in to Skype WiFi, will contacts see me online on Skype?

No, when you’re logged in to Skype WiFi, you will not appear online on Skype, unless you are already signed in to Skype.

What is Auto-Connect?

Auto-Connect remembers which WiFi hotspots you’ve connected to in the past. If you have previously used Skype WiFi over a hotspot, the next time you select the same supported network and launch the Skype WiFi app, you’ll be automatically connected to Skype. When you are ready to finish your session, simply tap the Skype WiFi app to end your connection.
