Sending instant messages with Skype 3.2 for Android phones

Instant messaging is free on Skype 3.2 for Android phones, just like it is on your computer. The following guide will help you get started with sending instant messages in Skype for Android:

Sending an instant message

Skype 3.2 for Android is great to get in touch with your friends and instant message them whenever you’re online:

  1. Sign in to Skype.
  2. Tap Contacts.
  3. Select the contact you want and tap Send IM.
  4. Tap the text field, type your message and tap enter on the keypad.

To add emoticons to your instant messages, simply tap the emoticon icon The emoticon icon and select the one you’d like to send.

To edit or remove your instant messages, just tap and hold the message and select Edit message or Remove message.

Instant messaging your Messenger buddies

With Skype 3.2 for Android you can sign in to Skype with your Microsoft account and instant message your Messenger buddies directly from Skype, just like you would your Skype contacts. When you sign in to Skype with your Microsoft account, all your Messenger buddies appear in your contact list automatically.

If your Messenger buddies upgrade to Skype, you’ll be able to reach them even more easily and you'll enjoy all the great Skype features together.

Copying and quoting an instant message

You can easily share instant messages someone sent you in Skype with your other contacts.

  1. In an active conversation, tap and hold the message you’d like to copy.
  2. Select Copy message.
  3. The message is copied to your phone’s clipboard and can be pasted to another IM conversation or a different application.

To quote an instant message:

  1. In an active conversation, tap and hold the message you’d like to quote.
  2. Select Quote message.
  3. The message with the timestamp and author’s name appears in the text field.
  4. Tap the text field to edit the message if needed, then tap enter on the keypad to send it.

Finding the recent instant messages

If you close an instant message conversation and someone sends you a message, you'll find it under Recent along with your instant message history.

Your instant messages are listed in chronological order. Instant messages that you haven’t read yet will display an orange numbered badge beside them.

To view an instant message, simply tap it.

Sending a group instant message

To send a group instant message:

  1. Sign in to Skype.
  2. Tap Contacts.
  3. Tap one of the contacts you’d like to include in the group.
  4. Select Send IM.
  5. Tap the plus icon The plus icon. and select Add people.
  6. Select Add.
  7. Tick the box next to the contacts you’d like to add to the group, then tap Add selected.
