How do I connect to the internet using Skype WiFi in Skype for Mac OS X?

Skype WiFi is a fantastic way to browse the internet when you’re on the move, using your Skype Credit as payment to log in to public WiFi hotspots around the world.

No more fumbling with credit cards or cumbersome sign up processes when you’re out there – you can simply use your Skype Credit to get online. You only pay per minute for what you use. There's no need to buy an internet day-pass if all you need is a few minutes of access.

The Skype WiFi price per minute varies by provider and will be displayed when you connect to a compatible WiFi hotspot.

Connecting to the internet using Skype WiFi

It’s easy to connect with Skype WiFi:

  1. Connect to the public Wi-Fi hotspot through your Mac's network settings.
  2. Sign in to Skype.
  3. When near a public WiFi hotspot that is compatible with Skype WiFi, a message box will appear. If you don’t see this message box, click Window > Skype WiFi.
  4. In the message box, you can see the Skype WiFi connection price per minute. To use your Skype Credit to connect to the hotspot, click Connect.
    Or, if you have an account with the hotspot provider detected by Skype WiFi, select I have an account with this provider, enter your username and password, and click Connect.

    By default, the connection time is set to 30 minutes. You can extend it to 60 or 120 minutes for the next time you connect by clicking the option icon The option icon. .
     
  5. Once connected, you can make Skype calls, surf the internet or check your email. There are no data limits, you’re simply charged by the minute if you’re connected using your Skype Credit.
  6. To end your session, click Window > Skype WiFi. A window with your remaining minutes appears. Rate the hotspot using the stars, then click Disconnect to end your session.
