Help Windows Desktop

How do I sign in to Skype for Windows desktop?

You can sign in with a Skype Name or a Microsoft account. If you don’t have either of those yet, it’s easy to create one – and if you have both types of account, you can link them.

Start Skype. You will see the following screen:

From here, you can create an account or sign in with your Skype Name, Microsoft account or mobile number. If you have a Facebook account, you can link it to your Skype account. Find out more.

Choose from the options below to learn how to create an account or sign in.

I don't have an account

If you don’t have a Skype or a Microsoft account, download Skype if you haven’t already, then start Skype and click Create an account. We’ll take you through the process to create your account.

To sign in to Skype:

  1. Type your Skype Name, email address or phone number.
  2. If you entered an email address and there is more than one account matching that email address, select the one you want to use.
  3. Type your password for the account you’ve chosen.

If you have a Skype account and a Microsoft account, we recommend that you link them. That way you use the same sign-in details for Skype that you use for all of your Microsoft devices and services. Plus, if you forget your password it’s easier to recover it.

If you have a Facebook account, you can link it to your Skype account. Find out more.

Changes to Auto Sign in

The option, Sign me in when Skype starts has been removed from the Skype sign-in window. Instead, we'll always remember your details. The next time you start Skype, you'll be signed in automatically with the same account, to save you having to re-type your login details every time.

If you'd like to turn the automatic sign-in option off, go to Tools>Options and remove the check from the box for Sign me in when Skype starts. The next time you start Skype, you'll be asked to enter your credentials to sign in.
