Skype for Windows desktop gives you several options to sign in to Skype so you can use Skype and the Microsoft services in a way that’s best for you.
We recommend that you sign in to Skype with a Microsoft account and link it to your Skype account. Don’t worry, creating a Microsoft account is easy, and if you use services such as Hotmail, Outlook.com or you have an Xbox, you already have one. You can even create one directly in the Skype application, if you want.
To enjoy the latest features and improvements, make sure you’re always using the latest version of Skype for Windows desktop.
When you start Skype on your computer, you will see one of the two screens below. Click the screen you see to learn more about how to sign in with that screen.
This login option allows you to sign in with your Skype Name (most common), Microsoft account, or mobile number, as well as create a new account. This feature is being rolled out to all users gradually, so don't worry if you don't see it yet.

With a Microsoft account, you can use Microsoft services such as Outlook.com, Hotmail, OneDrive, Windows Phone or Xbox LIVE, with just an email address and a password. So if you’re using any of those, you already have a Microsoft account.
You can sign in to Skype with your Microsoft account and link it to your Skype account.
To link your Skype and Microsoft accounts:
If you have more than one Skype or Microsoft accounts, for example a private and a business one, and you linked the wrong ones, you can easily unlink them, and then link the Skype and Microsoft accounts you want.
You are now signed in to Skype with your Microsoft account and your accounts are linked.
Keep in mind that the process above is geared for a Microsoft account you've never used to sign into Skype before; if you've already used your Microsoft account to sign into Skype, there's no reason to link accounts. If you want to link a Microsoft account you've already used to sign into Skype to an existing Skype account, you'll need to sign in with your Microsoft account, unlink the existing accounts (there will be one created for your Microsoft account), then go through the process above to link your Microsoft account to your existing Skype account.
To sign in to Skype next time, simply use your Microsoft account.
You’ve already been using the Microsoft services but now you’ve heard how amazing Skype is and you want to give it a try. If you’ve downloaded and installed Skype for Windows desktop and don’t really know how to sign in, don’t worry, it’s easy:
You’ve just created a new Skype account with your Microsoft account. To sign in to Skype next time, simply use your Microsoft account email address and password.
You can now find your friends who are on Skype and enjoy free Skype voice and video calls with them.
If you don’t have a Microsoft account and you’ve never used Skype, don’t worry. Once you’ve downloaded and installed Skype for Windows desktop, it’s easy to get started.
You’ve just created a new Skype account with your new Microsoft account and linked them. Now you are signed in to Skype with your Microsoft account.
To sign in to Skype next time, simply use your Microsoft account email address and password.
