Help Windows Desktop

How do I sign in to Skype for Windows desktop with my Microsoft account?

Skype for Windows desktop gives you several options to sign in to Skype so you can use Skype and the Microsoft services in a way that’s best for you.

We recommend that you sign in to Skype with a Microsoft account and link it to your Skype account. Don’t worry, creating a Microsoft account is easy, and if you use services such as Hotmail, Outlook.com or you have an Xbox, you already have one. You can even create one directly in the Skype application, if you want.

To enjoy the latest features and improvements, make sure you’re always using the latest version of Skype for Windows desktop.

When you start Skype on your computer, you will see one of the two screens below. Click the screen you see to learn more about how to sign in with that screen.

Simplified Login

This login option allows you to sign in with your Skype Name (most common), Microsoft account, or mobile number, as well as create a new account. This feature is being rolled out to all users gradually, so don't worry if you don't see it yet.

To sign in on this screen:

  3. If you entered an email address and there are several accounts matching the email address, select the one you want to use.
  4. Type in your password for the account you've chosen.
