You can send SMS text messages using Skype 3.2 for Android phones at the same great Skype rates you get when using Skype on your computer. All you need is a little Skype Credit.

Sending an SMS text message using the dial pad

To send an SMS text message using the dial pad:

  1. Sign in to Skype.
  2. Tap Call phones.
  3. Tap the flag icon or Skype logo above the dial pad, and select a country from the list.

Alternatively, you can enter the phone number along with the country code using the dial pad. The flag will change automatically.

  1. Enter your message and tap enter on the keypad to send it.

Sending an SMS text message to mobiles or landlines

To send an SMS text message to a Skype contact’s mobile or landline number:

  1. Sign in to Skype.
  2. Tap Contacts.
  3. Tap a contact and select SMS. If the contact has more phone numbers attached to their profile, select the one you want to send your SMS text message to.
  4. Enter your message and tap enter on the keypad to send it.

If you don’t see the SMS option available, it means that your contact doesn't have any phone number attached to their profile. Use the dial pad to enter the phone number manually.

Sending an SMS text message to a saved number

To send an SMS text message to a phone number that’s saved in your contact list:

  1. Sign in to Skype.
  2. Tap Contacts.
  3. Tap a mobile or landline number contact the icon of mobile and landline contacts.
  4. Select SMS.

You can send SMS text messages from Skype, but not receive them. We’re working hard to bring this feature in the near future.
