How do I make a group call in Skype for Windows RT?

Have you downloaded Skype and joined us? Then you’re ready to get calling.

With Skype for Windows RT, it’s easy to make a group call from anywhere in the world, and if everyone’s on Skype, it’s completely free.

If you’re calling people on a mobile or landline, you’ll need a little Skype Credit or a subscription. Although you can start group calls, you may have difficulty joining some. We recommend you always initiate group calls if using this platform. Functionality may be limited for mobile participants on the call i.e. they can join with audio only.

To make a group call:

  1. Start Skype.
  2. Under favorites or people, select the contact you want to call.

  3. Select the + icon and click add participants.

  4. In the add participants screen that opens, select the contacts you’d like to add to the group call. You can add up to 24 contacts. When you’re done, tap or click add.

  5. Tap or click the call icon.

  6. The screen changes color, a call bar appears near the bottom of the screen and you’ll hear ringing until the first person answers.

Useful things you can do on a call

  1. Go back to Skype Home to see your recent conversations, favorites or people.
  2. Mute your microphone so the other person can't hear you.
  3. Send an instant message to the contacts you’re talking to, or open the dial pad so you can dial extensions or make DTMF tones.
  4. End the call.
  5. When you receive an instant message from a participant in the group call, a pop up message appears.
  6. When you receive an instant message from any of your contacts, an orange dot with the number of received messages appears in the upper right corner of the screen.
