How do I sign in to Skype for iPad and iPhone?

You can sign in to Skype with a Microsoft account and link it to  your Skype account. Don’t worry, creating a Microsoft account is easy, and if you use services such as Hotmail, Messenger or you have an Xbox, you already have one.

When you start Skype on your iOS device, you will see one of the two below login screens. Click the screen you see to learn more about how to sign in with that screen.

Simplified Login

This login option allows you to sign in with your Skype Name (most common), Microsoft account, or mobile number, as well as create a new account. This feature is being rolled out to all users gradually, so don't worry if you don't see it yet.

To sign in on this screen:

  1. Type your Skype Name, email address or mobile number.
  2. Tap the arrow to continue.
  3. If you entered an email address and there are several accounts matching the email address, select the one you want to use.
  4. Type in your password for the account you've chosen.

Note that if you're sigining in with a Microsoft account, you can link it to your Skype account, if needed.

Legacy Login

Choose one of the options below to learn how to sign in to Skype for iOS in a way that’s right for you.

With a Microsoft account, you can use Microsoft services such as Outlook.com, Hotmail, OneDrive or Xbox LIVE with just an email address and a password. So if you’re using any of those, you already have a Microsoft account.

If you don’t have a Microsoft account yet, it’s easy to create one.

You can sign in to Skype with your Microsoft account and link it to your Skype account. Then you’ll be able to chat with your Messenger buddies directly from Skype and make free Skype calls to them.

To link your Skype and Microsoft accounts:

  1. Start Skype.
  2. Tap Sign in with a Microsoft account.

  3. Enter your Microsoft email and password, then tap Sign in. Tapping the Back arrow at the top of the screen will return you to the login screen.

  4. Tap Already using Skype? to sign in with your Skype Name and password.

  5. Verify your mobile number and tap the arrow (iPhone only).
  6. Enter your Skype Name and password, then tap Sign in.

You’re now signed in to Skype with your Microsoft account and your accounts are linked.

If you want to sign to Skype again, or if you want to use your account on another device, simply select the option to sign in with a Microsoft account and enter your Microsoft account details.

If you have more than one Skype or Microsoft accounts, for example a private and a business one, and you linked the wrong ones, you can easily unlink them and then link the Skype and Microsoft accounts you want.

You’ve already been using the Microsoft services and now you want to give Skype a try. If you’ve downloaded and installed Skype for your iPhone or iPad and don’t really know how to sign in, don’t worry, it’s easy:

  1. Start Skype.
  2. Tap Sign in with a Microsoft account.

  3. Enter your Microsoft email and password, then tap Sign in. Tapping the Back arrow at the top of the screen will return you to the login screen.

  4. Tap New to Skype? to sign in with your Microsoft account.

  5. Read the Skype Terms of Use, then tap I Agree.

You’ve just created a new Skype account with your Microsoft account. To sign in to Skype next time, simply use your Microsoft account email address and password.

You can now find your friends who are on Skype and enjoy free Skype calls with them, and you can also IM and call your Messenger buddies.

If you want to sign to Skype on another device, simply select the option to sign in with a Microsoft account and enter your Microsoft account details.

If you don’t have a Microsoft account and you’ve never used Skype, don’t worry. Once you’ve downloaded and installed Skype for your iPhone or iPad, it’s easy to get started.

First, create your Microsoft account. It’s easy, just follow the on-screen instructions and then you’re ready to sign in:

 

 

 

 

  1. Start Skype.
  2. Tap Sign in with a Microsoft account.

  3. Enter your Microsoft account email address and password that you’ve just created, then tap Sign in. Tapping the Back arrow at the top of the screen will return you to the login screen.

  4. Tap New to Skype?

  5. Read the Skype Terms of Use, then tap I Agree.

You’ve just signed in to Skype with your new Microsoft account.

If you want to sign to Skype again, or if you want to use your account on another device, simply select the option to sign in with a Microsoft account and enter your Microsoft account details.

To sign in to Skype for iOS with your Skype account:

  1. Start Skype.
  2. Enter you Skype Name and password.

  3. Tap Sign in.

You can create a new Microsoft account and link it to your Skype account.

You’ll still be able to enjoy all the great Skype features and there’s plenty to gain when you sign in to Skype with your Microsoft account:

  • one less password to remember
  • improved account security
  • even easier and more secure password recovery
  • access to the Microsoft online services
