How can I open IM conversations in new windows in Skype for Mac OS X?

To make multitasking a bit easier, you can now open your instant message conversations in separate windows.

To open conversations in new windows:

  1. Sign in to Skype.
  2. In the menu bar, click Skype > Preferences….
  3. Then select General at the top left.
  4. Check Open conversation in new window when I double-click it in the sidebar.

    The option “Open conversation in new window when double-click it in the sidebar” checked under Skype Preferences.

    Now you can simply double-click the name of the friend you’d like to send an instant message to in the sidebar and speak to them in a separate window.

    A contact selected under Recent.

    This only works if you open the conversation from your Recent list. If your friend is not listed under Recent, go to Contacts, double-click their name and it will appear there.
