The following questions and answers will help you get started with Skype on your Windows Phone 8:
You can sign in to Skype for Windows Phone 8 using a Microsoft account and chat with your Messenger buddies directly from Skype. We recommend you use the same Microsoft account you used to set up your Windows Phone.
- Start Skype.
- Tap Sign in.
- Enter your Microsoft account name and password and tap Sign in.
If you’re already using your Microsoft account to sign in to Skype, you can start using Skype for Windows Phone 8 straight away.
If you’ve been using your Skype account to sign in, you need to sign in with your Microsoft account and then link it to your Skype account to keep your existing contacts and credit. You can do this by following the steps in the app. If you are having trouble linking the accounts, please check this handy guide.
If you use more than one Skype account you will need to link each one to a different Microsoft account. If needed, you can create a new Microsoft account.

Even if you’ve never used Skype before, you can easily start using Skype with the Microsoft account you used to set up your phone.
- Start Skype.
- On the sign-in page, tap Sign in.
- Enter your Microsoft account name and password, then tap Sign in.
- Review and accept the terms and conditions.
- If you don’t already have a Skype account, choose no and we’ll create one for you and sign you in.
Your Microsoft account can now be used to sign in to other versions of Skype, such as Skype for Windows, Skype for Mac or Skype on your TV.

You only need to sign in to Skype for Windows Phone 8 once, when you launch the app for the first time. Then, you’ll be signed in automatically every time you start Skype.
If you just don’t want your contacts to see you, simply change your status to invisible.
If you want to sign out of Skype:
- Tap your profile picture in the top right corner.
- Tap the menu button .
- Select sign out.
Important: If you sign out, you won’t receive IM or call notifications, and your Skype contacts will be removed from People Hub.
Skype for Windows Phone 8 and all of its features work over 3G, 4G and WiFi. Operator data charges may apply when using Skype over 3G or 4G networks.
You can uninstall Skype from your phone at any time – this will remove the app from your device:
- Press the start key to go to the home screen.
- Swipe to the application list.
- Scroll down to find Skype.
- Tap and hold the Skype icon, then select uninstall.
