How do I send and receive photos, videos and other files in Skype for Android tablets?

This article is also available for:

You can send photos, videos and other files to any of your Skype contacts for free using Skype for Android. You can also receive files and store them.

Sending a file

It’s easy to send photos, videos or other files to your contacts:

  1. Sign in to Skype.
  2. Select the contact you’d like to send a file to.
  3. In the conversation window, tap the plus icon The plus icon. and select File .
  4. Select the file you’d like to send, for example an image from your gallery or a voice recording. The file will be sent as soon as the recipient accepts the transfer.

Receiving a file

If your contact sends you a file, the file transfer request will be displayed alongside your call history, voice messages and instant messages. The easiest way to find and accept file transfer requests is to select Recent from Skype’s main menu.

The file transfer request displayed under Recent.

Simply tap the transfer request and select Download to start the transfer. Videos and photos will be saved to your Gallery; anything else is saved to your Downloads folder.

The Download option selected to start the file transfer.

You can send and receive any type of file over Skype for Android and can view any file you receive as long as you have the necessary software or application installed on your tablet. There are no limits on the size of the file you can send. As long as the person you’re sending the file to has enough memory on their phone, they can store the file.

To view a file you’ve received, you don’t necessarily need to close Skype. You can have Skype running in the background while you’re viewing the file.
