How can I update Skype (Skype for modern Windows)?

Automatic updates (recommended)

Automatic updates are the easiest way to keep your version of Skype for modern Windows up-to-date. They’re turned on by default but you can simply disable them anytime if you wish.

Updating Skype for modern Windows manually

Even if you turn automatic updates off, you’ll be notified about any update so you don’t miss any new feature.

When you see a number displayed in the Windows Store tile, it means there are updates available for the applications you have on your computer.

To get the latest update for Skype for modern Windows:

  1. Select the Store tile to open Windows Store.
  2. Tap or click the Updates (number) in the top right corner of the screen.

  1. The App updates screen displays the tiles of applications with available updates. Select the Skype tile if you see it, then select the Install icon at the bottom of the screen.

If you don’t see the Skype tile in the App updates list, it means that there are no updates available for Skype at the moment.

  1. Wait for the update to finish. The message “Installing” with the status bar will inform you about the progress of installation. When the installation is completed, you’ll see the “Your apps were installed” message.

If the installation is interrupted or Skype doesn’t work after you installed the update, try to uninstall it and then download and install Skype for modern Windows again.
