When you sign in to the latest version of Skype with a Microsoft account, you can add Microsoft Lync users to your Skype contact list. Then you can send instant messages and make voice calls to them, just as you would with your other Skype contacts.

The following questions and answers will help you connect with Lync users on Skype:

How do I add a Lync user to my contact list?

It’s really easy to add a Lync user to your contact list:

  1. Sign in to Skype with your Microsoft account.
  2. In the Skype toolbar, click the add contacts icon.

  3. In the search box, enter the Microsoft Lync registered email address of the Lync user you want to add and press Enter.
  4. In the list of matches, “Lync” is displayed under the email address of Lync users. Simply select the person you want to add.
  5. In the window that opens, click Add to Contacts, enter some text to introduce yourself and click Send.

    The Lync contact will appear offline until they accept your request. After they have accepted your request, you can find them in your All and Lync contact lists.

How do I accept a contact request from a Lync user?

If you’re signed in to Skype with your Microsoft account, Lync users can add you to their contact lists. If a Lync user sends you a contact request, it will appear in your Recent conversations. To open the contact request, simply select it and click Accept.

How do I instant message and call my Lync contacts from Skype?

After you’ve added a Lync user to your Skype contact list or have accepted a contact request from a Lync user, you can send instant messages or make calls to them directly from Skype:

  1. Sign in to Skype with your Microsoft account.
  2. In the Contacts tab, select the All or Lync contact list.
  3. Search for the Lync contact you’d like to contact and select them. A conversation window opens.
  4. You can now send an instant message or make a voice call to them, just as you would with your other Skype contacts.

    If the status of your Lync contact is set to “Do not disturb”, you won’t be able to call them.

How do I call a Lync contact on their mobile or landline?

If your Lync contact is offline, you can call them on their mobile or landline. You’ll only need a little Skype Credit or a subscription.

To call a Lync contact on their mobile or landline from Skype:

  1. Sign in to Skype.
  2. In the Contacts tab, select the All or Lync contact list.
  3. Search for the Lync contact you’d like to contact and select them.
  4. If you haven’t added a mobile or landline number to their details yet, click the down arrow on the Call Phone button and select Add phone number. Then, select the type of number, change the country code using the flag menu drop-down list if you need to, type the phone number into the box and press Enter.

  5. Click the Call Phone button.

    If there are more registered numbers, select the one you’d like to call.

When your Lync contacts download Skype, you can enjoy together all the great Skype features such as video calling, group video calling, screen sharing and sending files or contacts.
