How do I block or manage my contacts in Skype for Android?

After you’ve added your friends to the contact list, it’s easy to manage the contacts in Skype on your Android phone or Android tablet. Click below to block, unblock, remove, find, synchronize, organize, and filter contacts.

You can block a contact to prevent them from calling you on Skype, instant messaging you or seeing you when you’re online. You can also remove contacts from your contact list completely, including contacts that were suggested to you.

To block a contact:

  1. Start Skype.
  2. From the People list, tap and hold the contact you’d like to block.
  3. Tap Block contact.
  4. Select Report as Spam to notify us of spammers so we can stop them in the early stages of their activity.
  5. Tap OK.

To unblock a contact:

  1. Start Skype.
  2. Search for the contact you want to unblock.
  3. Tap the contact in the search results.
  4. Select Unblock

To remove a contact:

  1. Start Skype.
  2. From the People list, tap and hold the contact you’d like to remove.
  3. Tap Remove contact.
  4. Tap Yes.

Alternatively, go to your People list and select a contact you want to block, unblock or remove. Press the menu button on your device or tap the menu icon  and select Block contact, Unblock contact or Remove contact.

All contacts you’ve added can be found in the People list. Simply tap a contact to open the conversation window. Here you can type an instant message directly in the text field, start a voice call, video call, or call mobile or landline number if your contact has attached the number to their profile.

Select a contact from the list and press the device’s menu button or tap the menu icon . From here, you’ll be able to add your contact to favorites, edit some contact details, view their profile information, block and remove the contact from your contact list, or assign a custom ringtone for that contact.

Synchronizing your contacts allows you to make Skype-to-Skype calls or start instant message conversations directly from your Android phonebook.

To synchronize your contacts:

  1. Sign in to Skype.
  2. Press the device’s menu button or tap the menu icon .
  3. From your profile, scroll down to the bottom and tap Settings > Sync contacts.
  4. Select one of the following sync options:
    • Sync all: This will add all your Skype contacts to your Android phonebook. If any of the contacts match, their Skype details will merge with the existing details in your Android phonebook.
    • Don’t sync: Contacts are not synchronized.
  5. Tap OK.

After you sync your contacts, your Skype contacts will appear in your Android phonebook. When you select a synchronized contact from your Android phonebook, you can:

  • make a call using the Android dialer
  • send an SMS text message using the Android dialer
  • make a call using Skype
  • send an SMS text message using Skype
  • start a Skype instant message conversation

When sending an SMS text message or calling a mobile or landline number from Skype, you’ll need a little Skype Credit or a subscription.

You can add the contacts you get in touch with most often to your Favorites list so you can find them easier. To add a contact to your Favorites:

  1. Sign in to Skype.
  2. Tap People.
  3. Tap and hold contact you'd like to add to the Favorites list.
  4. Select Add to favorites.

To add more people simultaneously:

  1. Tap People.
  2. Select Favorites from contact filters and tap Add Favorites.
  3. Put a tick next to those contacts you want to add.
  4. Tap the confirmation button The confirmation icon.

To remove people from favorites, select Add favorites and simply remove the tick next to their name.

The contact list feature allows you to display only certain types of contacts, or contacts with a certain status. To filter your contacts, simply tap the filter contacts icon in your contact list. If you’ve created any lists using Skype on your computer, these will also appear here. Select a list you want and, in your contact list, you’ll see only the contacts added to this list.
