Can I contact Lync/Skype for Business users from Skype?
With Skype Connectivity (our way of connecting Lync, Skype, and Skype for Business), you can now easily reach your colleagues, business partners or customers who are using Lync, Microsoft’s communication platform designed for the corporate world. In addition, you can also connect with colleagues using Skype for Business, the new, enterprise-grade software from Skype.
What do I need to reach my Lync or Skype for Business contacts from Skype?
All you need to connect with Lync and Skype for Business users is the latest version of Skype. Simply sign into Skype, and you’re ready to add Lync and Skype for Business users to your Skype contact list.
Currently, you can contact Lync and Skype for Business users from Skype for Windows desktop and Skype for Mac OS X, but we’ll add support for more platforms soon.
On the Lync side, Skype Connectivity is supported by Lync 2010 and Lync 2013, including any of the 2013 mobile clients. Skype for Business supports Skype Connectivity out of the box.
Skype Connectivity supported features
Once you add Lync or Skype for Business users to your Skype contact list in Skype for Windows desktop or Skype for Mac OS X, you’ll be able to:
- make voice and video calls to your Lync and Skype for Business contacts*
- instant message the Lync and Skype for Business contacts
- see their Lync/Skype for Business presence status
*Video calling is currently only supported for Skype for Windows desktop; video calling for Mac is coming soon.
If your Lync or Skype for Business contact is offline, you can call them on their mobile or landline. You’ll only need a little Skype Credit or a subscription.
