Can I contact Lync users from Skype?

With the Lync-Skype connectivity, you can now easily reach your colleagues, business partners or customers who are using Lync, Microsoft’s communication platform designed for the corporate world.

What do I need to reach my Lync contacts from Skype?

All you need to connect with Lync users is the latest version of Skype. Simply sign in to Skype with your Microsoft account and you’re ready to add Lync users to your Skype contact list.

Currently, you can contact Lync users from Skype for Windows desktop and Skype for Mac OS X, but we’ll add support for more platforms soon.

On the Lync’s side, the Lync-Skype connectivity is supported by Lync 2010 and Lync 2013, including any of the 2013 mobile clients.

Lync-Skype connectivity supported features

Once you add Lync users to your Skype contact list in Skype for Windows desktop or Skype for Mac OS X, you’ll be able to:

  • make voice calls to your Lync contacts
  • instant message the Lync contacts
  • see their Lync presence status

If your Lync contact is offline, you can call them on their mobile or landline. You’ll only need a little Skype Credit or a subscription.
