How do I set up Skype To Go™?

The following questions and answers will help you set up your Skype To Go numbers.

Can I use Skype To Go if I don’t have Skype Credit or a subscription?

Yes. You can set up one Skype To Go number for any of your Skype contacts, and even more for your contacts with a mobile or landline number, for free even if you don’t have Skype Credit or a subscription.

To set up more than one Skype To Go number for your Skype contacts, and to call the Skype To Go numbers of your contacts with a mobile or landline number, you’ll need a little Skype Credit or a subscription.

You can have up to 30 Skype To Go numbers.

How do I set up my Skype To Go numbers?

To set up a Skype To Go number:

  1. Sign in to your Skype account.
  2. In the Manage features section, click Skype To Go.


     
  3. Type in your country code and phone number in the box, then tick the box if you're using a mobile number.
  4. Click Set up Skype to Go.


     
  5. Make a note of the Skype to Go access number displayed on your screen, or save it to your phone.
  6. Make sure to set up your four-digit pin code -- this way, if you call from an unregistered phone, you can still access your Skype to Go.
  7. To add a contact, click Add a Contact.


     
  8. Enter your contact's details (either their phone or their Skype name); if you've chosen to enter their phone, also select the country in which they live.


     
  9. When you’re done, click Save.

Now when you want to call your contact, simply dial their Skype To Go number and you’ll be put straight through.

You will need a little Skype Credit or a subscription to call the Skype To Go numbers of your contacts with mobile and landline numbers or to set up more than one Skype To Go number for your Skype contacts.

With Skype To Go, you can call mobiles and landlines abroad at the same low Skype rates you enjoy when calling from your computer.*

Do I need to download or install anything?

You don’t need to download or install anything to use Skype To Go. Simply sign in to your account and follow the instructions above.

Now that I’ve set up my Skype To Go numbers, where do I find them?

You can find your Skype To Go numbers in your account. Simply select Skype To Go in the Manage features section and you’ll see your Skype To Go numbers next to your contacts’ names.

Why do I need to register my own phone number?

We ask you to register your phone number so we can recognize you when you call and
to prevent others from abusing your Skype To Go numbers. Make sure that your phone’s caller identification is enabled, otherwise Skype To Go will not work.

When you call one of your Skype To Go numbers from a registered phone, your call will be connected straight away. If you call one of your Skype To Go numbers from an unregistered phone, an automated operator will ask you to enter one of your registered phone numbers including the international country code (for example: +1 for the US or +44 for the UK), and your PIN before the call can be connected. This stops anyone from using your Skype To Go numbers without your permission.

How many of my phone numbers can I register?

You can register up to 20 different phone numbers to call your Skype To Go numbers from. To register a phone for use with Skype To Go:

  1. Sign in to your Skype account.
  2. In the Manage features section, select Skype To Go.
  3. Click Manage.
  4. Click Add new number.
  5. From the options provided, select whether the number you want to add is a mobile or landline number, enter the number, then click Save.

Why do I need a PIN?

You are given a PIN number to prevent others from abusing your Skype To Go numbers.

Remember: If you call one of your Skype To Go numbers from a phone you haven’t registered on your account, an automated operator will ask you to enter one of your registered phone numbers along with your PIN. When entering one of your registered phone numbers, you have to include the international country code (for example: 1 for the US or 44 for the UK).

Important: Never share your PIN with anyone else.

How can I ensure that the Skype To Go numbers are local to me?

To ensure that your Skype To Go numbers are local to you, you can check with your telecoms provider. They will be able to tell you which area code you are in and whether the area code of your Skype To Go matches that. If it does not, they will be able to help you locate the right one.
