How much will it cost my friends to call my Skype Number?

Your Skype Number has both an international and area code, so when you call one from a mobile or landline, local and long distance charges apply. However, what’s great about a Skype Number is that you can choose both the country and the area code. This lets your friends from that area call you on your Skype Number at a local rate.

Here is an example: say you have a Skype Number from New York and a friend calls you up from a regular New York landline. They will only be charged local rates. But if a friend calls your New York Skype Number from Los Angeles, they will be charged the usual long distance fees for a Los Angeles to New York call.

Of course, you can buy a Los Angeles Skype Number, even if you live in New York. You can even buy a Skype Number from some other countries (some countries restrict the sale of Skype Numbers to residents only), which can make receiving international calls a lot cheaper. With Skype Number, your friends can call you at the local call rates, no matter where you are.

Note that before you can set up a Skype Number for certain countries, you need to provide proof of residence.
