For Skype to work on your iOS device, you need to have at least iOS 5. If your device runs iOS 4 or below, click here to learn more.
You might receive the message "Unable to sign in, please restart your device and try again"; this could mean your software is out of date and you need to upgrade.
Before upgrading, you will need to uninstall Skype and reinstall via the App Store to update to the latest compatible version of Skype. For iOS 5 or 6 users, this version is Skype 4.17, and for iOS 7 users, this is Skype 6.13.
You might get a message saying "Unable to sign in, please restart your device and try again" on the sign in screen; this might mean your software is out of date and you need to upgrade.
In this case, go to the App Store on your iPhone, search for Skype, and tap Update to get the latest version:
You might also get an error when you first open the app saying "You are using an old version of Skype. Get the latest version now for the best Skype experience. Get it now." Tap Get it now.
This will launch the app store, and you'll be taken to the latest available version of Skype for your device and iOS version.
