    FAQ and known issues with the new Skype

    • Can I install the new Skype on my tablet?
      The new Skype is currently not support on tablets.

    • Why am I missing credit when I sign into Skype?
      Make sure you are signed into the correct account by using your email, phone or Skype account information.

    • Why am I being asked for my date of birth when I sign into the new Skype?
      Microsoft Account requires your date of birth to give you the best experience and for children’s online safety reasons.

    • Am I able to receive translator calls in the new Skype?
      We haven't built this functionality to receive translator calls into the app yet but you can sign in to your account on a supported Skype client to receive them.

    • Why can't my contact see my message and call reactions in Skype?
      Message reactions are only supported in the new Skype. Learn more.

    • Can I use my phone number to create an account in the new Skype?
      If you create an account using your phone number in the new Skype, your phone number will be temporarily unavailable for others to use to find you on Skype. This is a known issue and will be resolved soon. However, people will still be able to use your full name to search for you on Skype.

      If people are having trouble finding you, here are a few tips to help:

      • In the Chats screen, tap your profile picture and tap the Settings  button. Tap Share profile and you can share your unique link with friends and family.
      • In the Chats screen, tap your profile picture and tap the Settings button. Your Skype Name will be listed in your profile. Your friends and family can find you in Skype via your Skype Name.
      • Start a chat with your friends and family first. The chat will appear in their Chats screen, and they can chat or call you easily from there.

       

    • Why is the new Skype for Android crashing when viewing webpages in Chromium? 
      The Chromium component of Android System WebView is likely outdated. Learn more

       

    • Am I able to receive translator calls in the new Skype?
      We haven't built this functionality to receive translator calls into the app yet but you can sign in to your account on a supported Skype client to receive them.

      We haven't built the functionality to send video messages into the app yet but you can sign in to your account on a supported Skype client to send them.
       
    • During a call photos can be received but not sent
      We haven't built the functionality to send photos during a call into the app yet but you can sign in to your account on a supported Skype client to send them.
       
    • Can I put a call on hold?
      No, we haven't built the functionality to put calls on hold into the app yet. If you're on a call and accept a new one,  the current call will end. 
       
    • Incoming calls can't be merged with a current call
      We haven't built the functionality to merge calls into the app yet.
