Known issues with the new Skype

We are aware of some issues with vibrate and pulse light (LED) notifications in the new Skype on Android.

We haven't built this functionality to share to the new Skype from other apps on your Android device into the app yet. Stay tuned.

We are aware of some issues with playing audio from another app during a Skype call in the new Skype.

Currently in the new Skype, when receiving an audio call, it will answer in speakerphone by default. After answering the call, you can easily switch to your device's earpiece by taping the Speakerphone Speakerphone button button.

We haven't built this functionality to receive translator calls into the app yet but you can sign in to your account on a supported Skype client to receive them.

You can receive voicemails from incoming calls received from your Skype number. However, for Skype to Skype calls, we haven't built this functionality to receive voicemails into the app yet but you can sign in to your account on a supported Skype client to receive them.

Message reactions are only supported in the new Skype. Learn more.

If you create an account using your phone number in the new Skype, your phone number will be temporarily unavailable for others to use to find you on Skype. This is a known issue and will be resolved soon. However, people will still be able to use your full name to search for you on Skype.

If people are having trouble finding you, here are a few tips to help:

    • In the Chats screen, tap your profile picture and tap the Settings Settings button button. Tap Share profile and you can share your unique link with friends and family.
    • In the Chats screen, tap your profile picture and tap the Settings Settings buttonbutton. Your Skype Name will be listed in your profile. Your friends and family can find you in Skype via your Skype Name.
    • Start a chat with your friends and family first. The chat will appear in their Chats screen, and they can chat or call you easily from there.

Most of the experience is mirrored as expected for right-to-left languages like Arabic and Hebrew, and we are in the process of completely building this functionality.

We have found an issue with the return key (specifically swiftkey), not working with in the new Skype. We are investigating a fix.

We are in progress of resolving this issue, which is only occurring with the most recent version of Android. In the meantime, as a temporary workaround, you may set the Skype language as you would prefer (English or Traditional Chinese). Open any chat and in the chat window, type the following instructions and tap Send:

    • /language en to switch to English (US)
    • /language en-GB to switch to English (UK)
    • /language zh-TW to switch to Traditional Chinese
