Why can anyone contact me in Skype on desktop?

    Back to search results

Previously, in Skype on Windows, Mac, Linux, and Skype for Windows 10 (version 14), your friends and family had to send you a contact request and wait for you to accept it before you could talk to them. Now, this is no longer necessary. Your friends and family can talk to you immediately, and you can do the same.

You can change how people find you by doing the following:

    1. Go to your profile picture.
    2. Select Settings.
    3. Select Contacts.
    4. Select Manage how people find you on Skype.

When someone reaches out to you for the first time, you can choose to accept or block messages and calls from that person. Learn more about how to control incoming calls from anyone.

Before you accept, they will be restricted to sending you a limited number of messages and any media content they send is censored to protect you from spam.
