How do I make a call in the new Skype on desktop?

You can call other Skype users for free by making a Skype to Skype call. If the person you want to reach isn't available in Skype, you can call them on their mobile or landline - you'll just need a little Skype Credit or a subscription

Here's how to make a free Skype to Skype call:

    1. Select the Call calls button button to find a list of recent calls or to search for people.
    2. Locate the person or group you want to call, and then...

      • Make an audio call: Select the call Audio call button button.
      • Make a video call: Select the video call Video call button button.
      • Call an existing group of people: Select the audio Audio call button or video call Video call button button.
      • Call a new group of people: Select the Call Multiple People group call button button, select the radio button next to each person you want to include in the call, and then select the Call button. New group calls will always start as audio calls, but you can turn your video on during the call by selecting the video video call button button.
    3. At the end of your call, select the end call End call button button to hang up.

Alternatively, you can make a call from any one-to-one, or group chat by selecting the audio Audio call button or video call Video call buttonbutton.

If you're signed in to Skype, you can receive calls. You'll see an incoming call notification screen, select the call Audio call button button to answer the call as an audio call, or select the video video call button button to answer with video. If you don't want to answer it, select the end call End call button button to decline. If you're offline and you have Voice Messagingactivated, the caller will be able to leave a message, or you can set up call forwarding to another number.

You'll need a little Skype Credit or a subscription to call someone on their mobile or landline. If you've already saved the person's contact information, select the calls calls button button, and then select the call Audio call button button next to their name in your contact list. If the person has more than one phone number saved, you can select the number you want to call from a drop-down list. Alternatively, you can select the calls calls button button, and then use the dial pad dial pad button button to enter a phone number.

During a call, the call controls are hidden, simply select your screen to make them visible.
