How do I send SMS text messages in Skype on mobile?

    Back to search results

Sending SMS text messages is only available in Skype on iOS and Android (6.0+). To send an SMS text message, first you need to have a little Skype Credit. You can then send an SMS text message to any contact with a saved phone number.

Here's how to send an SMS text message on the new Skype...

    • From Chats: Select a one-to-one chat, tap the Add to chat  button, and then tap the SMS SMS button  button.
    • From Contacts: Select a contact,  and then select their phone number.
    • From Calls: Select the Dialpad  Dialpad button to enter a new phone number.
    • From a profile: Select the SMS SMS button  button.

Note: If your contact has more than one phone number saved, you'll be able to choose which number you want to use.

You can send an SMS text message to almost any number, as long as it's text-enabled. Most mobiles and some landlines can receive SMS text messages.

No, you can currently only send SMS text messages to one person at a time.

When you send a text through Skype, the recipient can't reply to you on Skype. However, you can change the sender ID so it displays your mobile number instead of your Skype Name. The recipient will then be able to reply to your SMS text message and their reply will be sent to your mobile (not to Skype).

Message delivery failures are issued by the recipients' carrier, and then forwarded to Skype. Check the recipients phone number, verify that you have enough Skype credit, and then try sending the message again.

If you’re sending a text to someone located in the USA, only the following carriers support receiving Skype SMS text messages: Alltel, AT&T, Cellular One Dobson, Cellular South, Centennial, Cincinnati Bell, Nextel, Ntelos, Sprint, T-Mobile, Unicel, U.S. Cellular®, Verizon Wireless, Virgin Mobile USA.
