Skype support for Windows XP and Vista users has ended. You will need to update your OS to Windows 7 or higher to continue using Skype on the same device. You can also sign into Skype on a supported device. If you are unable to access the latest version of Skype, you can export a copy of your recent conversation history or files shared.

Why should I update to the latest version of Skype?
Skype is always making improvements, such as enhanced quality, better reliability, and improved security. Because we want everyone to experience the best Skype has to offer, we are retiring older versions.
Do I have to update to the latest version?
Yes. Support for Skype version 7 and below will end on November 1, 2018 on desktop devices and November 15, 2018 on mobile and tablet devices. When support ends, we’ll begin requiring updates to the latest version.
How do I view my older chat history after I update?
For Mac, Windows 7 and above, when you update the Skype application on your device, you will be able to access your chat history from the past one year. History older than a year is only stored locally on your machine and is not backed up in the cloud. We recommend that you export the history file from Skype and save it to your preferred storage location.
To find the history file:
- Select the top menu button, and then select Settings.
- Select Messaging.
- Select Export chat history.
- We'll take you through the steps to export your history.
For Android and iOS, when you update the Skype application on your device, you will be able to access your chat history from the past one year. Older chat history may not be available after the update.
Why are my contacts, history and credits completely missing after the update?
Make sure that you are signed in to the latest Skype version with the same Skype credentials that you used on a previous version for Skype.
What do I need to run Skype?
Learn more about system requirements and supported platforms. If your system does not meet the requirements to run the latest version of Skype, you may lose access to some of your older locally stored conversation history. You can retrieve the recent conversation history by signing into Skype on a supported OS on a different device.
