    Back to search results

Meet Now in Skype allows you to easily set up a collaboration space and invite both Skype contacts and friends or family who are not on Skype. Participants can then easily join meetings whether they have an account or not.

How do I create a Meet Now call in Skype?
Starting your call is as easy as signing in to Skype and selecting the Meet Now universal Meet Now button button. From there, you will have the option to Host a meeting or Join a meeting. As the host, you can Name Your Meeting and add a personalized meeting title. Then you'll get a meeting link and the option to Add Skype contacts. Once you're ready, select the Start meeting button. You can also create a video call directly from the web.

Note: In Skype for desktop, if you change your mind about creating a new Meet Now meeting, you can select the Leave button to cancel the new meeting.

Name your Meet Now call; how can I personalize my call?
You can name your meeting in the Type a meeting name field, and update the meeting avatar with a Meet Now button, an Emoticon, a Sticker, or upload a photo. If you select a Meet Now button or Emoticon, you can also choose a different background color. Select the checkmark to confirm your choice. As you start to type a call name, you can choose from a list of suggested titles or make it something all your own. After you're finished, select the checkmark again and you'll be ready to get your call started.

How do I join a call with my Meet Now invitation?
You can use our unique Meet Now link to join a call in Skype by selecting the Meet Now button, pasting the link or code into the Meeting link or code field, then selecting Join. In addition, you can paste the Meet Now link into the search field in Skype to quickly join your meeting. The Meet Now link will also open your installed Skype app on any device. Even if you're not signed in, you can join the call or chat as a guest. If you don't have Skype installed on your computer, we will open Skype for you on the web. Our supported browsers for Meet Now are Microsoft Edge, the latest version of Chrome and Safari. You can install Skype on your device as well.

If you can't or don't want to allow access to your microphone and camera, you can also join a call just to listen in (using Skype for Web only). Select the Meet Now link, then select Block or Don't allow if Skype asks for permission to use your camera and microphone. Then, select the Continue without audio or video button to join the call. Note that the other participants won't hear you or see your video, but you will appear in the participants list and be able to use chat.

How do I limit who can join my Meet Now meeting?
When you create a Meet Now meeting, by default anyone with a link to that meeting will be able to join the chat or call. If you prefer to limit access to your meeting, you can disable Allow joining via link. If disabled, participants won't be able to join your meeting unless they are manually added. You can turn Allow joining via link off or on from the meeting profile, by selecting the meeting name from the top of the chat or from the Share link button during a call.

What's the difference between Meet Now and Group Chats?

    • Meet Now chats can be quickly set up and shared with others in two easy steps. However, all new Meet Now chats will initially have the same title and profile picture. Select the Chat Header in your meeting and select the Edit Edit text button button to rename it and add a profile picture.
    • Group Chats are customized from the start since a group name is required and has you select participants first before creating it.
