How do I add or change my profile picture in Skype for Windows desktop?

Keeping your profile up to date ensures that people will be able to find you on Skype:

 

 

 

You can either browse your computer for a profile picture, or take a video snapshot using your webcam.

Adding a picture from your computer

To add or change your profile picture using a picture stored on your computer:

  1. Sign in to Skype.
  2. From the menu bar, select Skype > Profile > Change Your Picture

  3. To select a picture from your computer, click the Browse button and find the picture you want to use. It can be in .jpg, .jpeg, .bmp or .png file format.
  4. Skype automatically resizes your picture so that it fits the default picture size. If you want to control exactly how your picture appears, choose the one with the size 96x96 pixels.
  5. Your new picture is displayed in your profile for everyone to see. When Skype is in default view, you won’t see your picture. To make sure that the picture is displayed, click Skype > Profile > Edit Your Profile….

You can also change your profile picture by going to Skype Home. Just click your Skype Name, and the Skype Home tab is displayed in the main window.

Taking a picture with your webcam

To change your profile picture using your webcam:

  1. Sign in to Skype.
  2. From the menu bar, select Skype > Profile > Change Your Picture
  3. To take a video snapshot, click the Take a picture button.



    If you’re happy with it, click Use this picture. If you want to re-create the picture, click Try again. Alternatively, you can select one of the pictures you used previously.  Just click one of your pictures displayed on the left and then click Use this picture.
  4. Your new picture is displayed in your profile for everyone to see. When Skype is in default view, you won’t see your picture. To make sure that the picture is displayed, click Skype > Profile > Edit Your Profile….

You can also change your profile picture by going to Skype Home. Just click your Skype Name, and the Skype Home tab is displayed in the main window.

 

Who can see my profile picture?

By default, your profile picture is only visible to your contacts. Unless you make it visible to everyone, it will not appear in search results when other people try to find you in Skype.

To specify whether to make your profile picture visible to everyone on Skype, including in search results:

  1. Sign in to Skype.
  2. Click Skype > Profile > Edit Your Profile….
  3. Under your picture, from the drop-down list, select either:
    • Public – visible to everyone on Skype
    • Contacts only – visible just to your contacts
