You can add a profile picture from one on saved on your computer or take a new one using your webcam.

Adding a picture from your computer

  1. Sign into Skype.
  2. From the menu bar, select Skype > Profile > Change Your Picture

  3. To select a picture from your computer, click the Browse button and find the picture you want to use. It can be in .jpg, .jpeg, .bmp or .png file format.
  4. Skype automatically resizes your picture so that it fits the default picture size. If you want to control exactly how your picture appears, choose the one with the size 96x96 pixels.
  5. Your new picture is displayed in your profile for everyone to see.

Taking a picture with your webcam

To take a new profile picture using your webcam:

  1. Sign into Skype.
  2. From the menu bar, select Skype > Profile > Change Your Picture
  3. You should see yourself in the window at the right side of the screen. If you don't, your webcam might not be working properly.
  4. To take a snapshot, click the Take a picture button.

If you’re happy with it, click Use this picture. If you want to re-create the picture, click Try again. You can also select one of the pictures you used previously.  Just click one of your pictures displayed on the bottom left and click Use this picture.
  5. Your new picture is displayed in your profile for everyone to see.

Who can see my profile picture?

By default, your profile picture is only visible to your contacts. Unless you make it visible to everyone, it will not appear in search results when other people try to find you in Skype. You can also specify who can see your profile information.

To specify whether to make your profile picture visible to everyone on Skype, including in search results:

  1. Sign into Skype.
  2. Click Skype > Profile > Edit Your Profile….
  3. Under your picture, from the drop-down list, select either:
    • Public – visible to everyone on Skype
    • Contacts only – visible just to your contacts
