Why am I being charged VAT?

Skype is required to charge Value Added Tax (VAT) on products supplied to customers where VAT is applicable.  The local standard VAT rate is applied.

For more information about VAT, and current standard rates, please check with your local tax authorities.

Some territories in the European Union are exempt from VAT under Council Directive 2006/112/EC on the common system of VAT. The Skype website does not enable users in such territories to take advantage of this VAT exemption; therefore, we do not provide Skype products in these territories.
