Why am I being charged VAT?

Skype is required to charge applicable Value Added Tax (VAT) on products supplied to customers in the European Union and Switzerland.  The local standard VAT rate is applied in each of the 28 EU member states and Switzerland.

To view the current standard VAT rates in EU member states, please click here.

Some territories in the European Union are exempt from VAT under Council Directive 2006/112/EC on the common system of VAT. The Skype website does not enable users in such territories to take advantage of this VAT exemption; therefore we do not provide Skype products in these territories.
