How do I show my mobile number when sending SMS text messages from Skype?

    Back to search results

When you send an SMS text message from Skype, the message the recipient receives will show from either your Skype Number or the first eleven characters of your Skype Name. For example, if your Skype Name is thisismyskypename, the message will show from thisismysky. The recipient will be able to reply to your SMS text message if it shows sent from your Skype Number.

If you prefer, you can change your sender ID, so it displays your mobile number instead. This means the recipient can reply to your SMS text message and the reply will go to your mobile phone, not Skype.

To change the sender ID, you need to verify your mobile number in Skype.

To verify your mobile number in Skype:

    1. Select your profile picture
    2. Select settings button Settings
    3. Select calling button Calling
    4. Select Caller ID to verify your mobile number.

Important: Make sure that you enter your phone number in the correct international format, otherwise you might not receive the verification SMS text message.

After you’ve validated your mobile number, all SMS text messages you send from Skype will display your mobile number as the sender ID.

Note: SMS text messages sent to mobile phones in Canada, China, Czech Republic, Poland, Taiwan, and the USA will not display your Skype Name or a validated mobile number. Instead, these SMS text messages will have generic, pre-defined numbers as the sender ID. For SMS text messages sent to mobile phones in Russia, the Skype Name is not displayed. A generic number is displayed unless you’ve set your mobile number as the sender ID.
