Home Skype for Windows desktop

Can I sign in to Skype with my Facebook account?

As we continue to roll out the new Skype, we’re discontinuing the option to login via Facebook in January 2018 and will streamline all Skype logins via your Microsoft account. Using a Microsoft Account will enable you to login-in via single sign-in, unlocking all your Microsoft services – including Skype, Office Online, Outlook, OneNote, OneDrive, and more – in one experience, with just one password. Currently, using your Facebook account to sign in to Skype is not supported on Skype for Windows 10, the new Skype for Android and iPhone, and the new Skype for Windows, Mac, and Linux.

To continue using Skype, either create a new Microsoft account or sign in with an existing Microsoft account if you already have one.

We'll walk you through some simple steps to transfer your information to a new or existing Microsoft account, so you can continue using Skype without disruption.

    Things we'll help you do:

    • Create a new Microsoft account or use an existing one
    • Transfer your contacts
    • Backup your chat history, (only available on Skype for Windows desktop or Skype for Mac)
    • Transfer your Skype Credit, Skype Number, or subscription balance
    • If applicable, update your Skype Manager account
    Let's get started...

    1. Do you have an email address that you use to sign in to other Microsoft products or services such as Xbox, Office Online, OneDrive, Outlook.com, or Windows?

      • Yes. Great - that same email can be used to sign in to Skype!

      • No. No problem, go to our Create an account page and we'll walk you through creating a new Microsoft account that you can use to sign in to Skype and other Microsoft services.
    2. Transfer your contacts, and chat history so you can continue talking to your friends on Skype.

      • Follow these steps to transfer your contacts  from the Facebook account you were using to sign in, to your new or existing Microsoft account.

      • To save your chat history from the Facebook account you were using to sign in, to your new or existing Microsoft account, follow these steps on Skype for Windows desktop, or Skype for Mac.
    3. Sign in with your new or existing Microsoft account for Skype in our transfer tool to move your payment information from your Facebook account over to your Microsoft account.
The transfer tool will show you everything that's going to transfer, you'll click Transfer, and then you're all done! If you receive an error, contact Skype customer service.

Note: If you decide not to transfer your Facebook account and have a credit balance, we will automatically refund you and cancel your Skype Number or subscription after January 10, 2018.
    1. If you have an email address that you use to sign in to other Microsoft products or services such as Xbox, OneDrive, or Outlook.com, you can use that same email to sign in to Skype. If not, just go to our Create an account page and we'll walk you through creating a new Skype account.
    2. Use our Skype Manager tool to set up an existing Skype account, or the new one you just created to be a Skype Manager account.
    3. Sign in to Skype using your Facebook login and add your new or existing Skype account as an administrator.
    4. Go to our transfer tool to move your Facebook account over to your Skype account.
Sign in with your new or existing Skype account, the tool will show you everything that's going to transfer, and then you'll click Transfer. If you receive an error, contact Skype customer service.
    5. If your colleagues use Facebook to login, make sure they also go through the steps in this article.
