How do I delete instant messages in Skype?

Find the message you want to delete...

on Android: Tap and hold the message, tap the trash icon, then select Delete.
on iOS: Tap and hold the message, then select Delete in the pop up window.
on Mac: Ctrl-click the message and select Remove Message.
on Windows desktop: Right-click the message and select Remove Message.
on Web: Right-click the message and select Remove Message.
on Skype for Windows 10: Right-click the message and select Remove.

The option to delete a message is only available for a short time after it's been sent.

How do I delete an entire conversation in Skype?

When you delete a conversation, all the messages in the conversation are deleted, and it's removed from the sidebar and your history. The conversation will be deleted from Skype on that specific device, but will still be visible on other devices unless you delete it from there too.

Find the conversation you want to delete...

on Android: Tap and hold the conversation, tap the trash icon, then select Delete.
on iOS: Select the chat header at the top of the screen and in the chat options, tap Delete chat.
on Mac: Ctrl-click the conversation in the sidebar and select Delete Conversation...
on Web: Right-click the conversation, select Delete conversation, then select Delete in the confirmation box.

Deleting a conversation is not currently supported on Skype for Windows desktop, or Skype for Windows 10.

How do I hide a conversation in Skype?

on Android: Tap and hold the conversation, tap the trash icon, then select Hide.
on iOS: Swipe left on the contact, tap the Delete icon, then select Hide.
On Mac: You can't hide a specific conversation on Skype for Mac, but you can clear all of your recent conversations from the sidebar. In the menu bar, click Conversations, select Clear Recent, then click Clear Recent in the confirmation box.
on Windows desktop: Right-click the contact, then select Hide conversation.

Hiding a conversation is not currently supported on Skype for Web, or Skype for Windows 10.

Can I edit an instant message after it's been sent?

Yes. Find the message you want to edit...

on Android: Tap and hold the message, select Edit message, make your changes, then tap the checkmark.
on iOS: Tap and hold the message, select Edit, then make your changes.
on Mac: Ctrl-click the message, select Edit Message, make your changes, then click Save.
on Windows desktop: Right-click the message, select Edit message, make your changes, then press Enter.
on Web: Right-click the message, select Edit message, make your changes, then press Enter.
on Skype for Windows 10: Right-click the message, select Edit Message, make your changes, then press Enter.

The option to edit a message is only available for a short time after it's been sent.

What's the difference between deleting or hiding conversations in Skype?

Deleting a conversation will remove the entire message history from your device, but it's still visible on other devices unless you delete it there too.

Hiding a conversation only removes it from your recent list but keeps the history on your device if you want to reference it later.
