Why can't I hear the other person in Skype for Mac OS X?
First, check that your speakers are connected and turned on. If this doesn't help, the table below gives more advice.
|Are your speakers working correctly with Skype?|| |
In the menu bar, click Skype > Preferences and then select Notifications > Details.
Click the little speaker button to the left of Play sound. If you can hear a sound being played, your speakers are working correctly.
To adjust the volume of the speakers, go to the right of the menu bar of your computer and click the volume button. Use the slider to adjust your volume.
If you cannot hear any sound, make sure that the device you want to use as your speakers is selected in Skype. At the top of the panel, select Audio/Video. In the Speakers drop-down box, ensure the correct speaker device is selected.
Go back to the Notifications panel and try playing a sound again, or try making a test call.
|Is your volume muted?||Check you're not on mute, and turn up any volume control knobs on your speakers.|
|Can you make a test call?||If you’re not on a call, try to make a test call. If you can record your own voice and hear it played back to you, then the problem may lie with the person you are calling. If so, ask them to follow these instructions.|
|Are you both using the latest version of Skype?||Make sure that both you and the person you are calling are using the latest version of Skype. If you’re not sure what version of Skype you are using, it’s easy to find out.|
