Sending SMS text messages (Skype for modern Windows)

You can send SMS text messages to any number that can receive them (that is, most mobiles, and some landlines), and to your contacts who have one of these numbers saved in their profile. All you need is a little Skype Credit.

To send an SMS text message to one of your contacts

  1. Start Skype.
  2. Select the contact you want to send the SMS text message to. If the contact is not listed under favorites or people, just select the right arrow The right arrow icon. next to people to see all of your contacts.
  3. Above the conversation box, select via Skype.

  1. If your contact has a phone number saved in their profile, select the number.

The phone number of the contact you want to text, displayed.

If there isn’t a phone number saved in their profile, select SMS, then enter a number and save it.

  1. Enter your message into the conversation box, then tap or click Send.

When your SMS text message has been delivered, the SMS icon next to the SMS text message will be checked The tick icon.

To send an SMS text message to a number not saved as a contact

  1. Start Skype.
  2. Tap or click the blue call phones icon in the top left corner of Skype Home.

The dial pad is displayed.

  1. If you’re texting abroad, choose the country from the flag menu drop-down list above the dial pad.
  2. Enter a phone number and select the blue SMS icon below the dial pad.

  1. Enter your message into the conversation box at the bottom of the screen and tap or press Enter. To insert a line break in your SMS text message, use the Shift and Enter key combination on your keyboard.

When your SMS text message has been delivered, the SMS icon next to the SMS text message will be checked The tick icon.
