How do I sign in to Skype for Mac OS X with my Microsoft account?

Skype for Mac OS X gives you several options to sign in to Skype so you can use Skype and the Microsoft services in a way that’s best for you.

You can sign in to Skype with a Microsoft account and link it to your Skype account. Don’t worry, creating a Microsoft account is easy, and if you use services such as Hotmail, Messenger or you have an Xbox, you already have one.

Choose one of the options below to learn how to sign in to Skype for Mac OS X in a way that’s right for you.

With a Microsoft account, you can use Microsoft services such as Outlook.com, Hotmail, OneDrive, or Xbox LIVE, with just an email address and a password. So if you’re using any of those, you already have a Microsoft account.

If you don’t have a Microsoft account yet, it’s easy to create one.

You can sign in to Skype with your Microsoft account and link it to your Skype account. Then you’ll be able to chat with your Messenger buddies directly from Skype and make free Skype calls to them.

To link your Skype and Microsoft accounts:

  1. Start Skype.
  2. Click Microsoft account.

If you have used your Skype Name to sign in to Skype on your Mac before, you first need to click Sign in with a different account so that you can proceed with the step two.

  1. Enter your Microsoft email and password.* Check Sign me in when Skype starts if you want to sign in automatically with your Microsoft account every time you are starting Skype, then click Sign in.

* If you don’t have a Microsoft account yet, click Sign up now and follow the on-screen instructions. When you’re done, you can continue with the next step.

  1. Click I have a Skype account to sign in with your Skype Name and password.

  1. Enter your Skype Name and password, then click Sign in.

  1. You’ll see your Microsoft and Skype accounts side by side. If everything is OK, click Continue.

You’re now signed in to Skype with your Microsoft account and your accounts are linked.

To sign in to Skype next time, simply use your Microsoft account.

If you want to sign in to Skype on another device, simply select the option to sign in with a Microsoft account and enter your Microsoft account details.

If you have more than one Skype or Microsoft accounts, for example, a private and a business one, and you linked the wrong ones, you can easily unlink them, and then link the Skype and Microsoft accounts you want.

You’ve already been using the Microsoft services, but perhaps you switched to Mac and you want to give Skype a try. If you’ve downloaded and installed Skype for Mac OS X and don’t really know how to sign in, don’t worry, it’s easy:

  1. Start Skype.
  2. Click Microsoft account.

If you have used your Skype Name to sign in to Skype on your Mac before, you first need to click Sign in with a different account so that you can proceed with the step two.

  1. Enter your Microsoft email and password. Check Sign me in when Skype starts if you want to sign in automatically with your Microsoft account every time you start Skype, then click Sign in.

  1. Read the Skype Terms of Use, then click I agree – join Skype.

You’ve just created a new Skype account with your Microsoft account. To sign in to Skype next time, simply use your Microsoft account email address and password.

You can now find your friends who are on Skype and enjoy free Skype calls with them and you can also IM and call your Messenger buddies.

If you want to sign in to Skype on another device, simply select the option to sign in with a Microsoft account and enter your Microsoft account details.

If you don’t have a Microsoft account and you’ve never used Skype, don’t worry. Once you’ve downloaded and installed Skype for Mac OS X, it’s easy to get started:

  1. Start Skype.
  2. Click Microsoft account.

  1. Click Sign up now and follow the instructions to create your Microsoft account.

  1. Click I’m new to Skype.

  1. Read the Skype Terms of Use, then click I agree – join Skype.

You’ve just created a new Skype account with your new Microsoft account and linked them. Now you are signed in to Skype with your Microsoft account.

To sign in to Skype next time, simply use your Microsoft account email address and password.

If you want to sign to Skype on another device, simply select the option to sign in with a Microsoft account and enter your Microsoft account details.

To sign in to Skype for Mac OS X with your Skype account:

  1. Start Skype.
  2. If you’re signing in for the first time, select Skype Name.

  2. Click Sign in.

You can also create a new Microsoft account and link it to your Skype account.
