What features does Skype for iOS support?

The latest version of Skype works on all iOS devices running iOS 8 or higher. If you're running an older version of iOS, you won't have access to Skype's latest features but will still be able to use the basics to keep you connected to your friends and family on Skype.

The latest version of Skype 6 for iOS supports:

  • Skype group audio and video calling
  • Instant messaging
  • Skype-to-Skype calling
  • Calling mobiles and landlines
  • Receiving Skype calls and calls to Skype Numbers
  • Creating a Calendar event
  • Call forwarding
  • Contact list filtering
  • Sending chat invites
  • Sending Voice Messages
  • Video Messaging
  • Sending photos (1:1 and group)
  • Opening Microsoft Office files
  • Merging your Skype account with your Microsoft account
  • Searching your conversations and contacts
  • Connecting to Bluetooth devices
  • Starting a group chat
  • Adding contacts to a group chat
  • Voicemail
  • SMS messaging

The following features are not supported:

  • Screen sharing*

The latest version of Skype 4 for iOS for iPhone and iPod touch supports:

  • Instant messaging
  • Skype SMS text messaging
  • Skype-to-Skype calling
  • Calling mobiles and landlines
  • Receiving Skype calls and calls to Skype Numbers
  • Skype video calling (1:1)
  • Participating in group calls (audio only)
  • Call forwarding
  • Contact list filtering
  • Voice Messaging
  • Video Messaging
  • Sending photos
  • Calling from your iPhone Address Book
  • Importing from iPhone Address Book
  • Merging your Skype account with your Microsoft account
  • Viewing and instant messaging your Windows Messenger contacts
  • Connecting to Bluetooth devices (iPhone 3GS or newer and iPod Touch 4th generation onwards only)

The following features are not currently supported:

  • Synchronizing with iPhone Address Book
  • Showing favorite contacts
  • Screen sharing*

*You can’t share your screen with your contacts, but they can share their screen with you during a one-to-one video call.
