What are hotkeys and how do I use them (Mac)?

Skype for Mac OS X has default keyboard shortcuts to make it a bit easier for you to get around. Some of the shortcuts are general and can be used in different applications on your Mac and some of them are specific to Skype.

It’s also easy to change shortcuts or to choose specific shortcuts to do other things in Skype for Mac OS X:

  1. In the menu bar, click the Apple symbol.
  2. From the drop-down menu, select System Preferences…, then click the Keyboard icon.

  1. The Keyboard dialog window opens.

To assign a keyboard shortcut to a certain function:

  1. In the Keyboard dialog window, click the Shortcuts button.
  2. From the list on the left side of the window, select App Shortcuts.
  3. Then click the + sign.

 

  1. In the dialog window that opens:

a)    From the Application drop-down menu, select Skype.
b)    In the Menu Title field, type the name of the keyboard shortcut so that it matches the exact name of the relevant function in the Skype menu bar.
c)    Assign the relevant shortcut in the Keyboard Shortcut field.
d)    Click Add.

 

To modify a keyboard shortcut:

  1. In the Keyboard dialog window, click the Keyboard Shortcuts button.
  2. From the list on the left side of the window, select App Shortcuts.
  3. Double-click the required shortcut and change it.

  1. Click Return.

If you wish to delete the shortcut you created, select it and click on the - sign.
