Can I disable particular features of Skype?

You can enable or disable many of the features in Skype for Windows desktop. For example, you may wish to disable sending files with Skype because of the threat of viruses and other malicious software.

Other features you can disable include:

  • Sending and receiving files.
  • Importing contacts.
  • Access to the Skype Public API.
  • Personalisation of sounds for calls, instant messages and notifications.
  • Changing the language.Running Skype only in memory (without storing any data on the local disk).

To enable or disable these features, you will need to change the registry file in Windows.

Full details on how to disable or enable features are provided in the Appendix of the IT Administrators Guide for Windows.
